Thredbo Patrollers perform avalanche rescue in Japan
On 14th Feb 2007 five volunteer Thredbo Ski Patrollers skiing on vacation at Hakkoda were first on scene after an avalanche hit a group of 22 Japanese skiers.
The Thredbo patrollers treated badly injured skiers, determined that two people were not accounted for, and initiated an extensive search. One deceased skier was located quickly and the second missing skier was found alive, buried in the avalanche debris, after 90 minutes of searching.
The five Thredbo patrollers Jonathan Disher, Ross McSwiney, Mark Spilsbury, Glen Kirkwood and Roger Campbell were touring with friends David Stewart-Thompson and David Brown.
